Ejemplo
Menor altura medida: 90”
90” − 0.75” = 89.25”

A simple, step-by-step guide.
Let’s Get Started!
Measuring your new curtains is easier than you might think. We prepared this guide to walk you through it step by step and help you get the result you want.
Before you begin, stand in front of the window or door you want to dress and imagine how you would like your space to look.
Would you rather install your curtains from the ceiling or above the window? Do you want them to open to one side or from the center? Would you like the window to be clear when they are open?
Visualizing these details will help you choose the ideal measurements for your space and enjoy curtains that fit your needs.
Before You Measure
Have Everything on Hand
All you need is:
- Paper and a pencil to write down your measurements.
- A tape measure or laser measure.
- An inclinometer, if you are going to install your curtains on a sloped ceiling.
Do you have someone who can help you? Even better! Especially if you are measuring large windows or doors.
Three Details Worth Remembering
- Always write down the width first and then the height.
- The measurements you enter when you place your order are the ones we will use to make your curtains.
- Express your measurements in inches, preferably in 1/8” increments, for greater accuracy.
Step 1. Let’s Measure the Width
Let’s start with the width!
First, look at your window or door and identify what the space where you will install the curtain is like. Then follow the option that best fits your home.
Option A. Between Two Walls
If your curtain will be installed from wall to wall, follow these simple steps:
- Measure the exact width between both walls, right at the height where you will install the track.
- Subtract 0.5” from the measurement you got.
- That’s it! The result is the width you should enter to have your curtain made.
This small deduction allows the track to fit properly. Once the curtain is installed, the fabric will visually cover the small gaps at the sides.
Example
Width between walls: 100”
100” − 0.5” = 99.5”
Tip: Our tracks can be easily cut to adjust their length if needed. This gives you more flexibility during installation.
Option B. With a Wall on One Side
If you have a wall at one end and free space at the other, it’s very simple.
Measure from the wall to the point where you want your curtain to end, making sure to cover the full width of the window or door.
We recommend extending the track at least 4” beyond the frame on the free side.
This small detail will help your curtain look more balanced and elegant.
Option C. With No Walls on the Sides
If your window or door has free space on both sides, you can choose how far you want your curtain to extend.
- Measure the full width of the window or door frame.
- Add the distance you want to extend on each side.
- We recommend adding at least 4” on each side for a more harmonious finish.
Example
Window width: 100”
100” + 4” + 4” = 108”
Step 2. How Do You Want Your Curtains to Open?
Here is something important worth knowing: when a Ripplefold curtain is fully open, the gathered fabric still takes up part of the total width.
If you want your window or door to be clear when the curtains are open, we’ll show you how to calculate the ideal width.
These recommendations should be taken into account both in spaces between walls and in spaces with free sides, depending on the available space.
Opening to One Side
When your curtain opens to one side only, the gathered fabric takes up approximately 30% of the total width.
To keep the window clear, follow these steps:
- Measure the width of the window or door frame.
- Divide that measurement by 0.7.
- Add at least 4” so the curtain extends over the wall at the end opposite the side where it gathers.
The result will be the recommended manufacturing width to keep your window clear when the curtain is open.
Example
Window width: 100”
100” ÷ 0.7 + 4” = 146.86”
Opening from the Center
When your curtain opens from the center toward both ends, the gathered fabric takes up approximately 15% of the total width on each side.
To keep the window clear:
- Measure the width of the window or door frame.
- Divide that measurement by 0.7.
The result will be the recommended width so that the fabric can gather on both sides and leave the window clear.
Example
Window width: 100”
100” ÷ 0.7 = 142.86”
Remember: These calculations help you keep the window clear when the curtains are open. You can also choose a different width based on your preferences and the available space, keeping in mind how the fabric will gather.
Step 3. Now Let’s Measure the Height
We have the width! Now on to the height.
You just need to identify where you will install your curtains and follow the corresponding instructions.
For a better result, take your measurements as precisely as possible, preferably in 1/8” increments.
Option A. From a Flat Ceiling
It’s very simple!
- Measure from the ceiling to the floor at three points: left, center, and right.
- Choose the shortest of the three heights.
- Subtract the gap you want to leave between the fabric and the floor.
We recommend leaving at least 0.75” between the curtain and the floor. This will make cleaning easier and help keep the fabric from rubbing against the floor.
Example
Shortest measured height: 90”
90” − 0.75” = 89.25”
Keep in mind: This procedure applies both to installing a single curtain and to installing two curtains on a flat ceiling.
The manufactured height may vary by up to ±3/8” from the requested measurement. We explain this detail further on.
Option B. From a Sloped Ceiling
Does your ceiling have a slope? You can still install your curtains!
Our system supports installations on ceilings with a maximum slope of 20°.
At steeper slopes it might work, but the installation would be the customer’s responsibility.
Before measuring, check the slope with an inclinometer.
If You Are Installing One Curtain (One Track)
Follow these steps:
- Locate the joint between the wall and the ceiling.
- From that joint, measure 2.5” forward, following the sloped line of the ceiling.
- Take this measurement at three points: left, center, and right.
- Make a visible mark at each point. These marks show where the center of the track will be.
- Measure from each mark to the floor.
- Choose the shortest of the three heights.
- Subtract the gap you want to leave between the fabric and the floor.
That’s it! The result will be the height you should enter to have your curtain made.
Example
Shortest measured height: 90”
90” − 0.75” = 89.25”
If You Are Installing Two Curtains (Two Tracks)
In this case, we will measure each curtain separately to make sure both have the right height.
Curtain 1. The one closest to the window
- From the joint between the wall and the ceiling, measure 2.5” forward, following the slope.
- Mark this distance at three points: left, center, and right.
- Measure from each mark to the floor.
- Choose the shortest of the three heights.
The marks show the location of the center of the first track.
Curtain 2. The one in front
- From the same joint between the wall and the ceiling, measure 7.5” forward, following the slope.
- Mark this distance at three points: left, center, and right.
- Measure from each mark to the floor.
- Choose the shortest of the three heights.
These marks show the location of the center of the second track.
Now you just need to subtract from each of the heights the gap you want to leave between the fabric and the floor.
Example — Curtain 1
Shortest measured height: 90”
90” − 0.75” = 89.25”
Example — Curtain 2
Shortest measured height: 91”
91” − 0.75” = 90.25”
An important detail: On sloped ceilings, always measure from the location where the center of each track will be, not directly from the joint between the wall and the ceiling.
Also remember that the manufactured height may vary by up to ±3/8” from the requested height. This tolerance is part of the normal manufacturing process and is not considered a defect.
Option C. Above the Frame of a Window or Door
Would you rather install your curtains on the wall, above your window or sliding door?
Follow these simple steps:
- Measure from the top of the window or door frame to the floor.
- Add at least 3” to leave enough room above the frame to install the wall brackets.
- Subtract the gap you want to leave between the fabric and the floor.
The result will be the height you should enter when you place your order.
Example
Height from the frame to the floor: 90”
90” + 3” − 0.75” = 92.25”
Keep in mind: These instructions apply to installations with both single and double wall brackets.
Step 4. A Few Details Worth Knowing
We want your curtains to look beautiful from day one and for a long time to come. That is why it is important to know a few details about spaces, fabrics, and our manufacturing process.
Installing higher can make your space look better.
Whenever possible, installing the curtains higher helps create a sense of spaciousness and elegance.
Every space is different.
It is common to find small unevenness in floors or ceilings. Because we make your curtains using the height you provide, these differences may become visible after installation.
That is why we recommend measuring at the three points indicated and using the shortest height.
The height may vary slightly.
Our manufacturing process has a tolerance of ±3/8” from the requested height. This means the curtain could end up as much as 3/8” longer or shorter.
This variation is normal and is not considered a manufacturing defect.
Fabrics can stretch naturally.
Over time, the fabric’s own weight can cause it to stretch by up to 0.5”.
This behavior is natural and is not considered a manufacturing defect.
Leave a small gap above the floor.
We recommend leaving at least 0.75” between the fabric and the floor.
This gap makes cleaning easier, helps prevent premature wear, and reduces the chance of the curtain rubbing against the floor if the fabric stretches over time.
Take care of your curtains’ natural drape.
When the fabric touches the floor, the natural shape of its folds can change.
This effect is not considered a manufacturing defect and is not covered by the warranty.
Step 5. Check Your Measurements and You’re Done!
You’re almost finished!
Before entering your measurements at Drapery Life, take a moment to make sure everything is correct.
- Confirm the width and height of each curtain.
- Verify that the measurements match the type of installation you chose.
- Check that you have taken into account how the curtain opens and the available space.
- Remember to always enter measurements in the order width × height.
- Check your measurements a second time for extra peace of mind.
The measurements you enter are the ones we will use to make your curtains especially for you.
