🚪 Free Space (Room Divider)

A "free space" installation is when the drape is used as a room divider or partition — not mounted over a window at all. The track spans an open space, typically mounted to the ceiling or a structural beam.

Best for
Studio apartments, open-plan spaces, bedroom partition, closet covers, sliding door alternatives.
📏
How to measure
Width = length of the track span. Height = from track mount to floor (ceiling to floor minus 1/2").

🔲 Recessed (Inside Recess/Niche)

A "recessed" installation means the track sits inside a window recess, architectural niche, or deep window frame — with the drape contained entirely within the opening. Common in South Florida condos and hotels.

Best for
Deep window recesses, hotel-style windows, sliding door niches. Creates a very clean, architectural look.
📏
How to measure
Width = inner recess width at the opening. Height = inner recess height from track to sill/floor. Subtract 1/2" on each dimension for clearance.
⚠️
For recessed installs, the drape cannot overlap the frame on either side. Measure the inner recess precisely — there's no room for error. Book an Expert Visit if you're unsure.
